Reviews for Mehrdad Mashayekhi
Average Rating:| Terpasaur Course: SOCY241 Grade Expected: B June 15, 2011, 2:41 pm | Lots of reading. And yes, he expects you to understand what you've read - or if not he expects you to asks questions so he doesn't target you to ask about the book. That said, Prof. Mashayekhi is by far one of the most outstanding teachers I've ever met. He's passionate about what he's teaching and if you're genuinely interested, he'll send you with irreplaceable knowledge and understanding. Don't take this class if you want to sit in the back and sleep away your college education. Do take this course if you want to put your tuition $ to work. |
| Anonymous Course: SOCY241 Grade Expected: B April 28, 2011, 11:46 am | This is not a class to take if you are looking for a CORE or some diversity credit. Grade is based on 2 30 question tests and one paper. You read like 30 pages in a book before class and you go over it in class. He picks random people and asks them about some little piece of information in the chapter then insults you about not reading if you don't know. I literally don't think I learn anything in class and his method of just asking random questions makes it extremely hard to take neat notes. I do not recommend him at all. |

Definitely go to class regularly, he will get mad if you don't & everything on his tests will be much easier if you go to class he pulls straight quotes from lecture as questions. He teaches by making the class ask questions, doesn't really lecture which I found pretty unhelpful personally. |

Just be a good little student who keeps up with the readings like they should, and you'll be fine. Don't skip class though. He particularly doesn't like that. |
| sillyputty184 Course: SOCY100 Grade Expected: A- April 19, 2010, 1:39 pm | Attendance, Midterm, Final, and Paper. Easy intro course. You have to buy his book; reading is important because he goes fast in lecture. Grades the paper hard, which would have brought me down to a B+, but I participated, so I got an A-. Knows his stuff, but I didn't really learn anything. Tests are pretty fair and based off of reading. He gives you five free questions you can choose not to answer. (ex. test is 50 points, but 55 questions are given. Answer ONLY 50) |
| Anonymous Course: SOCY241 Grade Expected: B December 11, 2009, 9:42 am | Mshayekhi really knows his material, however, his teaching skills are well below par. You won't learn anything attending class and it is very boring. Three grades all together, One-Midterm, One 8-page Paper, and Final. Final and Midterms are fair (in the sense that you get to skip 5 questions and its only out of 30 questions), but be careful with your paper. He will give you poor guidelines on how to go about your paper and is extremely critical towards it. Overall, I hated the work in the class. [But material is interesting, if you can learn independently from the books]. |
| ecozzone Course: SOCY100 Grade Expected: A April 29, 2009, 12:29 pm | I think he is a great teacher. Definitely one of the best I've had. He has a unique way of teaching through discussion and I find it much easier to learn that way. He does require class attendance however and is strict about texting. |
| johngreen Course: SOCY100 Grade Expected: B May 16, 2008, 8:38 am | Mashayekhi is an interesting guy... just sort of a shitty teacher. If you can pass an exam by just reading a book, you are good. Don't expect to learn much in the class... now normally this would be ok, but Mashayekhi insists that you go to class (you lose 3 points off your final grade if you miss 5 classes). Good luck. |
