Reviews for Myron O. Lounsbury
Average Rating:| Anonymous Course: AMST429Q Grade Expected: B April 7, 2010, 10:52 am | NEVER under any circumstances take a class with Myron Lounsbury. He mumbles about things that make no sense, nor are they related to each other. One common theme he referenced was the connection between roman polanski's sex scandal, david letterman's sex scandal, and 9/11. Yes, 9/11. Don't see a connection? Neither did I. He shows signs of dimensia during every class (3 hours). also his grading on papers is illegible so you don't know why you got the grade you received and sometimes you can not even read the grade itself. lastly, it took over 1 month after the class was over for him to post my grade. at that point, he gave me the wrong grade ( c ) so i had to contact his superiors in the department many times to get my grade changed to a B. Just don't ever take his classes and do anything you can to avoid him. I only gave him 1 star in this review because there is not an option for 0. |
| dzawacki Course: AMST204 Grade Expected: B October 21, 2009, 3:28 pm | Myron Lounsbury was probably a decent professor in his time, which unfortunately was some time in the 1970s. He is stuck in the past, unable or unwilling to learn how to operate projectors and DVDs (the library assistants at Hornbake usually had to turn everything on for him). He mumbles to himself and is too quiet for most of the three and a half hour class. Besides the obvious exhausting length of the class, the time seems to drag slower because of the actual films he shows. The title of the class is Film and its Effect on American Culture, but we have yet to watch a single film relating to America. Lounsbury has become obsessed with the International Film Series at the Hoff, which this year focuses on Africa. I'm all for learning about other cultures, but that's why I'm signed up for Diversity classes. I signed up for this class to examine film and American culture (it is an AMST course...), and the original syllabus looked promising. But that syllabus has been rendered obsolete as each week Lounsbury chooses loosely related film clips and films at random. Bottom line, what I though would be an interesting class on American film has dissolved into a boring waste of time. I highly, highly recommend not taking this class, or any other taught by this professor. |
| jmartin1 Course: AMST204 Grade Expected: April 23, 2008, 11:49 am | seemed like a nice guy, but is way behind the times. you could barely hear him at times because he mumbled to himself. class was long and a waste of time, and TA was an asshole. look for a better HO core if possible |
| terpfan29 Course: AMST204 Grade Expected: November 2, 2007, 9:17 pm | Strengths If you like watching and analyzing movies you will like this class. I took it for a core credit. The class/the movies are interesting. We have watched several movies in full such as, Rear Window, L.A. Confidential, Manhattan Murder Mystery, Do The Right Thing, Falling Down, Minority Report and more. He definitely is knowledgeable in film and American culture. The workload is light. 3 5-7 page papers each count for 25% and participation is 25%. Drawbacks He is a little boring at times. He is a hard grader on papers. A little quirky, but thats okay. Also the papers tend to be vague in their instruction and were difficult to write. I took this class in Fall 2004 and got a B. It consisted of twice a week lecture for 2 hours and 45 minutes which was awfully long! I think it has changed since then. |
