Reviews for Dolores Lima-Vales
Average Rating:| megancif Course: SPAN306 Grade Expected: B June 1, 2010, 10:27 am | I had Dolores for 206 and after this class, I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO REGULAR SPANISH CLASSES! She has high expectations of her native speakers its ridiculous. She barely gives out higher than a 89 on compositions. This class is basically all grammar, and its challenging. Being a native speaker does not really help because most of the students know how to speak Spanish but do not understand the grammar. The class overall was average. |
| Anonymous Course: SPAN206 Grade Expected: A January 12, 2010, 11:17 am | This class was perfect for me. I don't consider myself as a "native speaker" simply because I do not speak Spanish that much, but the university thought otherwise. This class was challenging for all students, including those who were fluent. I enjoyed it because I felt she pushed her students to her expectations. We speak only Spanish in class, and you discover her english isn't very good. Unlike my other spanish class, I took this class seriously and studied for every exam and quiz. If you study, theyre pretty easy. We also have to do a portfolio type thing, where we insert all our work from the semester, and its worth 10% of your grade. At the end of the semester, you have a presentation, that she basically gives everyone an A on. Unfortunately, this class is only offered in the fall. |

I would not recommend taking this course if you are attempting to "learn" Spanish; it is more of a practice course, where you read a story and discuss it each class. We didn't really learn any language concepts, just talked alot. Also, there are a number of projects, but they are easy. Finally, Dolores was a very nice person, and was an approachable and ineractive teacher. |
| bh Course: SPAN311 Grade Expected: A- November 14, 2008, 5:43 pm | I'd disagree with the other comment that she's not good at engaging the class. We always have lively moderated discussions and interesting course projects. I've enjoyed myself in her class. One problem though is that class often runs late. Don't sign up for her section if you have another class right afterward. Grades can often take some time coming back, too. |
