Reviews for Joseph J. Lengermann
Average Rating:| anizzle1 Course: SOCY100 Grade Expected: B December 2, 2010, 3:27 pm | I hated sociology. Lengermann is the most boring professor. He says "ummm" and "ahhh" entirely too much. I fall asleep often. His lecture quizzes were stupid but the ones in class you could work on with other people. Towards the end of the semester he started to send quizzes out on elms and they were stupid as well. Discussions were stupid. I feel like my TA didnt really teach and the sole purpose for my attendance was for the quizzes. I hated/hate this class. It's dumb. No offense if it's your major. |

It was the professor. He was SO BORING I could barely pay attention. He rambles on and on and can't get a word out of his mouth without saying, "uh," at least one time. His lecture slides use a lot of useless information, but his study guides are all you need for the test. My TA was also super boring. Essays were easy and graded even easier. Not challenging, just mind numbing and achinly dull. I actually get irritated having to listen to this teacher ramble on. |

| Anonymous Course: SOCY100 Grade Expected: B February 4, 2010, 9:52 am | Teacher is very well educated on the topic he's teaching. However, the lectures are very dry, and he posts powerpoints of his lectures online. He does random attendance 5 times a semester, and almost bi-weekly quizzes in lecture. He drags information from his lectures, but also studies from the book specific to the current chapter. Great teacher though, as he does care about the grades the students receive. |

He gives you clue's for what will be on quizzes and lets you work in groups (4-5 people around you) on quizzes, which really helps. Since, he provides a priority list for the exams...they are managable and dont worry if you are not doing too well on exams because he has several extra credit assignments at the end of the semester that helps your grade somewhat (4%) I would say this class is probably overall not that hard... |

The lectures are insanely boring. He is quite old so he speaks quietly and monotone- enough to put me to sleep. However, he forces you to go to lecture by having attendance and quizes. The quizes are fill in the blank and pretty hard- testing on specific numbers and facts. Test questions are quite wordy and often confusing. Discussion also takes attendance and has quizzes so you have to go to those too. Many people failed tests. I would reccomend taking another professor or not taking it at all. |

| Anonymous Course: SOCY100 Grade Expected: October 26, 2008, 12:30 pm | There was very little organization in the syllabus and I noticed a lot of people were confused about what they were supposed to be doing. Especially when writing their Observations and Reactions. Honestly, I blame the TAs for being unable to explain what the students needed to understand. Lengermann was great in terms of reiterating the information in the book--word for word. He rambles a bit and class doesn't really start until ten minutes after the actual time because of whatever irrelevant information he is discussing at the time. If you take this class--go to EVERY SINGLE LECTURE. There are attendance sheets and quizzes. The quizzes were great because you can work with people around you and I worked with people who knew the material. |

Attendance is definitely key, but his exams are not hard. If you show up to lecture and read the text, you'll do just fine. He has a monotonal voice which makes his lectures boring sometimes. His papers are not hard to write or harshly graded (if you don't like the grade the TA gives you on an exam or paper, just show up to his office hours and he'll just be so happy that a student showed up, he'll fix it right away). I took the SOCY100 over a winter term with him and it was definitely easier than I had expected a winter course to be. |
| Charlie Course: SOCY100 Grade Expected: B May 5, 2008, 4:25 pm | Knew the information fairly well but exam material was mixed throughout readings, lecture notes, and homework so the exams were difficult to study for. Attendance is very important, there are attendance sheets or quizzes very often, and 4 papers which can be very helpful/harmful towards your grade. Not an easy A |
