-not a good lecturer; not engaging at all- thinks students knows exactly what he's talking about, but they don't entirely
-lectures off slides
-exams are tricky

Not the greatest lecturer since he teaches off his slides, which are taken right out the book. You can easily do well just reading the book and doing the homework problems. At the very least, you should do the homework problems because many of his exam questions are taken straight out of the homework. His exams are entirely multiple choice so there won't be any partial credit on them. The only other source of possible questions on the exams come from problems that he works out in lecture. Unlike the questions taken from the homework, he'll change up the worked problems so you'll have to work backwards or calculate something during the exam.

Exams got progressively easier and were all multiple choice. He isn't the best lecturer out there and lectures were kind of more supplementary to the textbook and slides. Keep in mind that there isn't truly that much material covered in 271, so self teaching is not all that bad. Overall, he's a nice guy and I've heard better than that other 271 profs out there. The curve this semester was probably around ~7-8%.

EXTREMELY BORING lectures! He's hard to understand and he doesn't answer questions well and moves either too fast or too slow. I fell asleep in almost every lecture as much as I tried to stay awake. But he does post all of his lecture powerpoints online and the TA goes over a lot of the homework problems in discussion, which is very helpful. His exams are very fair...all multiple choice and tests mainly on problems he went over in lecture in his powerpoints or that were assigned as chapter problems. He had a reasonable curve at the end of the semester too. Overall, pretty easy teacher, just really boring

Dr. Lee has been the worst instructor I have had at UMD. Though he seems very knowledgeable about the subject, he is unable to convey that knowledge in any way. He reads his lecture slides verbatim and then posts them online, so attending lecture is frustratingly pointless. Much worse, however, is his use of multiple choice exams and no other assignments. The final was worth 50% of your grade, and there were 40 multiple choice questions. This allowed for no partial credit, which limited his ability to actually assess your understanding of the concepts. Forget to carry a coefficient or make a math error on 4 final problems, and you've already lost 5% of your total grade. Only take Lee if you feel extremely confident in your ability to teach chem to yourself and be a perfectionist on exams.

He cannot speak English, but his exams are very fair, if not easy if you study even a little. He is approachable, and have a interesting sense of humor. I personally never went to lecture, and read the book and did well. But if you are type of person who doesn't like to read the book, and hope to retain everything from lecture, this is not the guy you want to take.

Dr. Lee taught the second half of the class. The material in this half was really straightforward and lecture notes are posted on Blackboard. He literally prints out the pdfs and copies it on the board verbatim in lecture so showing up is a waste of your time. I skipped/slept through the last two weeks of class (8 hours of lecture) and just taught myself the stuff I missed the day before the final and still did fine.
