Do the homework and you'll be good it's a little boring but it is kinda like math with words really its kinda different and easy to grasp if you do the homework which is crucial.

Good professor--knowledgeable on the material and willing to explain it to those who don't understand. Definitely buy the book, as it explains everything fully and completely. If you can do the hardest problems in the book you'll definitely be able to perform well on the exams as the exams are much easier. If you put in a little effort to learn the material, you will be able to do well. Overall, an easier class than expected.

Took PHIL256 with her. I know absolutely nothing about philosophy and thought that her explanations were very clear and easy to understand. If you go to every class and take good notes, you'll do well on the essay exams, discussion board, and term paper. The review sheet she gives you before each exam has the same questions as the exam... would definitely recommend her

I took phil256 with her. She divided the grades up 25% for each of 2 exams, 30% for a 7 page paper, and 20% for weekly online discussions. She graded the exams rather harshly. I am a philosophy major and normally get As on my philosophy exams, I felt I deserved As on one of my exams, but I still got a B. Aside from her being a little harsh on the grading, her class is pretty strait forward, she is very nice, and will help you if you have any problems. She did not take attendance. We have not completed the paper yet, but it seems like 7 pages will be very long for the topic of the paper. There is no final, the 2 exams take place during the semester and the paper is due on the day of the final exam.

Had this class with her online and it only took 3 weeks. she did cover about 15 chapters worth of symbolic logic in this time and actually 14 of them were done in 2 weeks so it's intense...

she is VERY kind and responsive to your questions and I assume she carries this over to her class room lectures also.

would definitely take another class with her. tests are easier than homeworks and she gives extra credit problems that take a bit of thinking but aren't impossible.

Contrary to the reviews, this class is actually a really easy A. I'm not particularly good at math, but I do enjoy puzzles, which may be the reason for my good time in that class. If you treat the entire course like one giant game, there is no reason why you wouldn't excel.

The class is truly boring and Eaker doesn't make it much better. She's rather one dimentional, but still an effective teacher. She likes to use power points. The book is essential, so you should definitely buy it. Your grade is based on two midterms, a final, and homework (10% of total grade). DO NOT skip discussion because this is where the TA explains any ambiguous concepts and offers more practice problems. This is also the time HW is due.

Overall, if you can do the textbook problems without mistakes, then you'll be set for the exams, as they really are much much easier than the practice in the book. The exams usually consist of true/false sections, which are the only difficulty I found. The HW is graded on effort, not correctness.

Boring class, boring material. Easy if you're good at math. Lectures were helpful in that it was easier to understand when she was going over it than reading the book. She's very nice and patient, and her exams are 100x easier than the homework, so if you can do all of the homework, you're SET for the exams.

This class basically sucks. It is all about a bunch of complex rules and proofs so unless you really enjoy math I wouldn't advize taking this course. Your whole grade depends on three exams and 10% homework. Class is kind of pointless to go to- the lecture is boring and doesn't really help. The book is a necessity but generally the exam questions are easier than those in the book. Overall, frustrating course that required lots of memorization and practice.
