Reviews for Juliet Benham Wiersema
Average Rating:| Anonymous Course: ARTH250 Grade Expected: May 22, 2010, 7:41 am | I feel sorry for anyone majoring in art history, and wish them good luck in finding a job. This class is not an easy A, and there is no curve either. The professor knows her stuff, but sets up her exams so that you will end up with a B. If you don't care about a B, you can pull it off easily. To get the A, you're gonna have to put in an extraordinary amount of effort for just a CORE class. There are probably easier CORES somewhere else, unless you have a weird passion for ancient American art history |

She is a scatter brain, she cant teach. Dont take her unless you really like ancient america and if you are prepared to do a lot of studying on your own. |
| MooseNinja Course: ARTH250 Grade Expected: A+ December 28, 2009, 8:00 pm | I'm an engineering major who needed an HA core. I didn't really expect to like this class but it ended up being both my easiest class and highest grade this semester. Attending lecture is a must as the vocabulary and themes discussed are exactly what you should write about in the essays. The readings are best described as interesting but optional, the bulk of the class is straight up memorization. The exam review guides and slide lists are all inclusive. |
| brunoinpa Course: ARTH250 Grade Expected: B December 13, 2009, 6:44 pm | I'm an engineering major taking this class for core requirements. The class seems like it would be great if you actually liked art. Some parts are interesting and Professor Wiersema was very knowledgeable in the subject. The class SUCKS, but the Professor knows her stuff |
| jamgord Course: ARTH250 Grade Expected: B November 25, 2009, 7:09 am | Professor Wiersema is one of the most entertaining professors I've had. She's so adorable because she makes the cutest comments and is always happy. Occasionally, she will get frustrated with the people cutting the grass outside the lecture hall and run out the door to ask them to be quiet. lol. You should do the readings and make sure you watch the videos because questions will be on the Midterm. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING: MAKE FLASH CARDS! They are VERY helpful. Be sure to study them weekly, because you have quizzes in discussion and you need to have the objects memorized for the midterm/final. Also, make sure you have all the cultures matched with their time periods and locations. Overall, this class is very interesting and I was quite intrigued by the art and ideas that we studied. |
| aralchen Course: ARTH250 Grade Expected: A+ August 25, 2009, 9:24 am | Wiersema is one the best professors I've had in college so far. Her lectures are interesting, engaging, and challenging. Exams are fair - if you know your stuff you'll get the A. Some pointers: 1. DO the readings. Without them mastering the exams will be nearly impossible. 2. DO attend the lectures. The power points are very basic (mostly pictures, almost no words), so they won't help you unless you go to lecture. If you must miss a day, ask a friend to copy his/her notes so you don't lag behind. 3. DO attend discussions. There's a weekly quiz you don't want to miss, plus a lot of concepts are explained there. 4. DO NOT take her class for CORE. It's very hard, so only take it if you're interested in the subject. |
| Anonymous Course: ARTH250 Grade Expected: May 18, 2009, 8:28 pm | Good class to take. Very chill professor. You have to be willing to put forth some effort though. The class was very top heavy, meaning the bulk of your grade would be on the first half of the semester. Taught off of powerpoint slides, which were also posted online. Exams were clearly explained and simple. Outlines were given for what would be on the exams as well. TA's and discussion were great reinforcement, if you don't go to lecture, go to discussion. Make flashcards early on for all the art pieces discussed and you will be set. |
| Anonymous Course: ARTH250 Grade Expected: B April 11, 2009, 10:36 pm | This class isn't too hard but it is very time consuming. The weekly quizzes in discussion were very annoying. She is insanely nice. There's a lot to read and memorize. She is also very flexible with her office hours. |
| Anonymous Course: ARTH250 Grade Expected: December 19, 2008, 7:08 pm | DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS FOR CORE!!!!! An excellent professor, but very very hard, especially for non art history majors. If you are an art history major, this class is excellent with a great professor, but still a lot of work. Although the class it challenging, the professor is very understanding and cares about her students. |
