Average Rating:| goldilox Course: GERM302 Grade Expected: November 1, 2011, 5:07 pm | Petra is by far the best German instructor I've had at UMD. She explains everything so clearly and is incredibly nice. Take her if you can! |
| jcywong Course: GERM103 Grade Expected: A July 9, 2010, 3:30 pm | Petra is a fantastic German instructor. She delivers her class with great enthusiasm and organization. I took her Sommer GERM103 and learned so much from scratch in just six weeks. The course is well organized and clearly scheduled in the syllabus. She is very well prepared for class and has a lesson plan that fluidly fills the 2.25 hour class. I rarely noticed that the class was already over! Her exercises are reinforcing and very helpful especially with grammar points. She has various handouts from different sources that allow us to approach the theme or grammar in a different light than the book or the workbook. She also tries to make the class fun and interactive, by arranging various German word games and music videos. She also attempts to discuss Culture topics with great success. The class is graded on Homework, Participation, Bi-Chapter exams, Quizzes and a Final. The grading is fair and the level of difficulty is appropriate. Of course, academic expectations remain high with pop quizzes and oral exercises. She also always welcomes questions, and any inquiries about German culture. She is very approachable and friendly too. I would not hesitate a single second to choose her sections again! For those taking German in the summer - remember it is 4 credits in 6 weeks so it is a lot of work! Expect to spend 4 hours per day doing homework and lab exercises and to review for quizzes. That is the average amount time spent for me, but it varies from person to person of course. If you keep up the workbook and lab, do your journals, engage in class and review frequently (it's a language class!), there is no reason why you won't do well. |
