Reviews for Guita Vafai
Average Rating:| Anonymous Course: ARTT100 Grade Expected: A December 15, 2009, 11:18 pm | The class was, above all else, a waste of time. The assignments were for the most part uninspired if not downright excruciating. If we were not "drawing unrecognizable shapes to express <insert emotion here>" we were painting color wheels or drawing an umbrella in 45 different ways (yes, the assignment was absolutely miserable. In the description of the assignment Professor Vafai even acknowledged how insanely boring and repetitive it was but justified it by saying that it would teach us dexterity). Basically, very few of the assignments served much of any purpose beyond taking up your time. With that said Professor Vafai is a very nice woman and she genuinely cares about her students. She is receptive to concerns and generally taught what little useful material there was quite well. The only real issue I found with her teaching came from inconsistencies between her requirements/expectations and her TA's. If you are unfortunate enough to have Jessie as your TA, ignore any and all of his directions and go straight to Professor Vafai for every question that you may have. Numerous times this semester I and other students found ourselves frustrated by conflicting directions or inconsistent advice on what did or didn't "look good" which inevitably led to a loss of points on multiple assignments. The Verdict: Professor Vafai is a decent teacher but her material and projects are for the most part dreadfully boring and repetitive. If Jessie is your TA be ready to ignore him and just go straight to the professor for all of your questions. |
| Anonymous Course: ARTT100 Grade Expected: B December 2, 2008, 8:09 pm | this class was extremely boring. the professor has a heavy accent and was not good at communicating ideas or class assignments. the extent of our curriculum was drawing lines to "show emotion" and drawing contour lines. we did do painting for the last part, which was fun. we had very little homework but there were a few periods of time during which we had a number of projects due at once and it was not realistic to be expected to complete all of the work. the class was long (2.5 hrs/ 2 days per week) and boring. i did not learn anything. i took this class because i thought i would learn how to draw but it was completely unsuccessful in this aspect. either take this course with a different instructor or do not take this level of art. |
