She has a lot of her own input, which sometimes is annoying but a lot of times is helpful. The books we read were incredibly interesting, and by the end of the semester, we had discussions at least once a week. She skips over basic sociology terminology (cause you are not tested on it), so it makes the class more open-ended. She wasn't the best professor I had, but she is a good grader and very logical. |
| umdgirl21 Course: SOCY100 Grade Expected: November 27, 2010, 7:37 am | Michelle is overall a pretty good teacher. It can be a bit boring when she lectures, and definitely annoying because she says "Ummm" a LOT, but once you get past that you realize the class isn't that bad. The best class sessions were the group presentations, because they usually took up the whole class and were more interesting than her lectures. She does give a lot of reading, but the majority of it is interesting enough. She assigned weekly reviews of the reading -- these were pretty easy, we had to do 10 total (about 1-3 pages in length, for 10 points each...she usually gives 8-10s on these; one group project; a midterm, and a final. It's not extremely necessary to go to every class, but she will definitely boost your grade if you do come to class and participate. I DO recommend her if you're interested in SOCY or if you just need a core! This was pne of my lightest classes. |
| LadyL Course: SOCY105 Grade Expected: December 10, 2009, 9:49 am | I had Michelle for socy105 and overall it was a good class. The readings can be a bit heavy in load, but she does attempt to do her best in tailoring it to the interest of the class. She was very knowledgeable and she was a very nice person. She really wants her students to do well, and even gives out study guides so we know what will be asked on the tests. I'm taking her again for socy203, so I would definitely recommend her!! |
