Class will be boring, and you will have to do a few long assignments. But she almost ALWAYS lets class out 30-60 minutes early (class was 3 hours long). Also, she can be humous at times, and ends up giving students much better grades than they expected. I disagree with other reviews of Skinner. She is not the worst of professors to take for ENGL393. |
| Anonymous Course: ENGL393 Grade Expected: A May 12, 2009, 1:28 pm | An absolutely horrible teacher. She is unwilling to help and the class does not teach. Mostly, students present from the book and you do not get a chance to improve. It is mostly the students doing all of the work and she is just there. She does not return papers back on time and most of the time, she just tells personal stories that if of no interest to students. |
| Anonymous Course: ENGL393 Grade Expected: A May 11, 2009, 3:58 pm | I had to work EXTREMELY hard to get an A on this course. I put more time, energy, and effort into this class than all my other engineering courses combined. She does not challenge you whatsoever, and the work is almost completely busy work. My group was completely useless and put in probably 10 percent of the total work I did, and they will end up with the same grade as me. How is this fair? |
| Anonymous Course: ENGL393 Grade Expected: B May 11, 2009, 3:55 pm | Unless you plan on working all day long for this class, do not take her as a teacher. She does not return papers on time, so you will have no idea how to improve your writing for the next one. Furthermore, she is terrible at grading and grades each paper with A, A-, B...so you really will not know what your grade in the class is. It's a lot of work, and it is just not worth it. Avoid taking her if possible! |
| Anonymous Course: ENGL393 Grade Expected: B May 11, 2009, 3:52 pm | Do not take Ms. Skinner if you want to do well in the class. Her grading breakdown makes absolutely no sense. About 65 percent of the total grade is based on group work. She grades everyone based on group work and she does not consider each individual separately. So if you get stuck with useless partners, then your individual grade will suffer immensely in the class and you will have to do most of the work. She is a terrible teacher. |
| Anonymous Course: ENGL393 Grade Expected: December 22, 2008, 1:03 am | Ms. Skinner is an okay professor for technical writing, but you can probably find better. You had to attend class for participation, and she had annoying pop quizzes on the reading. The pop quizzes weren't necessarily hard, I just never read the stupid book (it's pretty useless). Her best quality is probably that she has one of the nicer grade breakdowns for this class. |
| Anonymous Course: ENGL393 Grade Expected: B November 21, 2008, 9:20 am | Avoid taking Ms. Skinner for Technical Writing. Throughout the course, the lectures consisted mostly of students presenting on chapters in the book. She doesn't provide useful information in lecture. Also, she doesn't grade assignments until it is too late for her remarks to help. She gave back my proposal for the final paper only three days before the final paper was due. When I went to discuss the issues with her, she was unwilling to help. If you want to learn anything and get feedback on your work, do NOT take Ms. Skinner. |
