Reviews for Amita V. Sarin
Average Rating:| Anonymous Course: HONR218P Grade Expected: A December 19, 2008, 1:37 pm | Professor Sarin is very knowledgeable about India and is very helpful to any student who asks for assistance with an assignment. She does not however, hand out grades and she expects a certain level of participation and work, but it is not unreasonable. The class also focuses a lot on art and architecture in India, which can get to be tiring for the person who is not interested a lot in art. But Professor Sarin does a good job using the art to teach about history and other topics. I would recommend this class to anyone who is interested in India. |
| saqibas Course: ARTH290 Grade Expected: B August 26, 2008, 3:56 pm | This was one of the worst classes I ever took in College. The course material was entirely uninteresting and Sarin was a pretty bad teacher. The exams were entirely picture recognition and memorization. It was entirely because of the TA that we didn't fail. I took this class in Fall 2006, and reading the new reviews, it seems that she's changed the class a bit and brings snacks as bribes LOL |
| Anonymous Course: HONR269M Grade Expected: March 16, 2008, 9:08 am | Class consists of either student presentations on a religious site or Sarin's long powerpoints. The powerpoints are dull (perhaps not so much if you're very interested in the subject matter) but she occasionally shows a good video bit. The two field trips are interesting. There are only 3 assignments, a mid term, and a take home final, but the assignments are a lot of research. The reading is not necessary, but the books may help for assignments. She's not particularly exciting, but does give a lot of information. |

Reallly appreciates class participation (especially as she is able to get very little due to her lengthy powerpoints). Exams are not unbelievably hard, and are open notes, but she expects very specific answers, so taking good notes is important. And this class in particular will only be interesting if you're coming in with a fair knowledge of the country. It is entirely art and architecture based, except for maybe the last 2 days which are about contemporary India and globalization. NOT a social studies type class at all. |
| ncow Course: HONR269M Grade Expected: December 10, 2007, 3:31 pm | Let me say right off the bat that this is NOT a seminar-style class. It's all lecture except when she asks you random questions. Luckily, the lecture material is fairly interesting, but Professor Sarin goes through a ridiculous of information in a short amount of time. She'll only test you on main ideas and themes but there are certain things you have to mention in your responses for full credit on the midterm. There is no final, so after the midterm, you can literally not pay any attention at all in class and it won't hurt your grade one bit. For extra credit, you can go on two or more of the class field trips to local religious buildings. Even if you don't need extra credit, I would suggest going anyway. They are fun and Professor Sarin brings a RIDICULOUS amount of RIDICULOUSLY good food. She even gives you sandwich baggies to take stuff home. P.S. Don't bother with the reading. |
