Reviews for Ugo Piomelli

This is the only class that I have ever taken in engineering that I got a B in. He had one office hour a week and never had time for everyone. He also never did examples in class and the average grade on an exam was 15/30. He spends all his time deriving equtions that can just be found in the book. We really don't need to know where EVERY single equation comes from, just how to use it. Someone like Dr. Kim, who taught me heat transfer, requires more work and also derives some equations, but he also works problems and does examples and applies things to the real world. The two are completely different. I love heat transfer because I had an excellent professor. I hated fluids and have a hard time wanted to learn more about it. |

I liked the math derivations that he did because it made feel like I really understood everything in the class. The hw and tests are pretty easy and he didn't give a project. |
| scroofoo Course: ENME332 Grade Expected: A+ December 3, 2007, 2:25 pm | I had Dr. Piomelli for Undergrad Thermo and Fluids. He is obviously a very intelligent guy but spends too much time deriving equations rather than explaining their applicability to real-world problems. Tests, grading is fair. I don't know if he will be teaching undergrad again anytime soon, but he is definitely a good professor to take just because he can answer any question you can think of. |
