The best thing about him is that he posts lecture notes and VIDEO RECORDINGS OF THE LECTURES (at least for the class I was in). This is a huge plus. Also, there appeared to be a pretty huge curve at the end of the class. I somehow got an A with a grade in the low 80's. Anyway, go to his office hours and it might have a positive effect on your grade. The reason I take off a star is because sometimes his test questions are a bit vague. I feel like I should have been pulling >90% on all the tests, because I honestly felt like I knew all the material in the class. I remember one time he said that nothing I had written for an answer was wrong, just that I had written too much. Apparently, if I crossed out half of my answer I would have gotten more points.... |

The only concern I have with this class is that there are only two exams before the final which could either be a good or bad thing. However, he does take into consideration effort! If you are not sure of concepts or are doing bad, visit him in office hours. He is very helpful! He has also stated in class that he grades on an upward trend. Finally, buying the studying guide for the text book is extremely helpful in understanding concepts and sealing them in. Go through the group questions before the exam! |

His lectures are boring though (well he can't help it, biochem is boring), and his transitions from topic to topic could be worked on quite a bit. He could be better at explaining things but thats where the textbook comes in handy. I definately recommend reading the textbook. His exams are ok- I'm one of those people who still failed when I studied so hard so I can't really say much about the difficulty. Overall, Paukstelis is the way to go over Tugarinov, definately. |
