I don't care what anyone says, GRADES are the most important part of any class. Yes, learning is important. But when you apply to grad school and entry-level jobs, they ask for your GPA (preferably a 3.0+). They do not ask if you loved your classes and if your instructors were great people. With that being said, teachers need to keep students up to date on all of their grades in a timely manner. I'm about to take the final exam for this class in two days, and I have no idea where I stand in the class. Our first two papers are still not posted. Also, our 2nd midterm, which we took over a month ago, was just posted on Blackboard a week ago. The tests are all scantron, so it should take no more than a week. I'm pretty sure the TA does all the grading, but that doesn't make it acceptable. We were supposed to get our papers back in a timely manner so that we can appeal any grades that didn't seem right. That clearly is not going to be an option for our class. Also, the class wasn't that interesting. There's probably a reason why this class is open to non-psych majors. I wouldn't recommend this class to a friend, whether Orehek or another instructor was teaching it. |
| terpof2011 Course: PSYC221 Grade Expected: B December 1, 2009, 4:59 pm | Ed is very very funny! He will probably make you guess how old he is in your first class. Don't let his appearance fool you...he's 27. I was impressed with his breadth of knowledge on the subject, considering his young age...he is a very accomplished and knowledgeable professor and relates extremely well to the class because the age difference in teacher-student is minor. Orehek made the information so much more enjoyable to absorb because nothing was "sugar-coated". If a study he was explaining required a bad word here or there to get the point across, he had no problem using them. This made things so much more fun! His humor was very dry, but totally appropriate. This class was pretty easy. The information is either common sense, or Orehek explains it fully in a way that is easily understood. Multiple choice exams and 2 papers to write. Good class and GREAT professor. |

He's very nice, funny, and literally tells you everything that's going to be on the exam. The only way you will not succeed in his class is if you don't study. The material is actually (unexpectedly) very interesting as well. So should you take his class? duh. If being told exactly what to study for on his non-ambiguous tests isn't enough for you, then you shouldn't be in college. In fact, he even provided 32pts of easy extra credit! Best professor I've ever had. He explains everything very clearly; he takes many perspectives and spends much time on every important topic. I'm a second-semester junior btw. |
