Average Rating:| Anonymous Course: MUSC140 Grade Expected: A+ January 26, 2012, 5:20 pm | Loved the class with Mr. Nowakowski. It is definitely a lot of work, but you learn a lot and think about music in a completely different way afterwards. There are two concert reviews and three composition projects, all of which you will want to put a lot of effort into. The quizzes & exams themselves are fairly straightforward. I wouldn't recommend this course if you have no musical experience at all, but everything after the first two weeks (i.e. how to read music) or so was new to me and I did fine. |
| rockinbassman Course: MUSC140 Grade Expected: A+ March 20, 2011, 8:42 pm | Mark was an okay teacher. He is put in a tough situation with MUSC140 and he performed decently. The problem is that half the students will have a bit of prior musical experience, and half will have NONE. Not an easy teaching situation. He started slow with the basics, but then moved a bit faster, losing the people who weren't as good with much. He's a composer, so you'll be doing a composition assignment that was actually quite enjoyable. You'll also have to go to 2 concerts and do a write up. His grading system was weird though. He curved DOWN the class, but he might have changed that in the final grades and not have told us. In order to get an A-, you needed something more like a 92 rather than a 90. If you like music and have prior experience, you'll be fine. If you don't, I wouldn't recommend this. The weekly homeworks are easy for music people, but the concerts and composition take a bit more time. |
