Homeworks were graded harshly by the TA who had to look up the answers in order to explain anything to you. Tests were worth 100 points (averages in the low 60s), and no one knew what the curve was until we got our final grade. Final was no longer optional. She also never turned up to exams and didn't even grade them. I heard she was nice from other students who visited her during office hours, but that does not make up for her completely worthless lectures. She gets the homeworks from MIT, so if you want a head start you can go to their website and download them. |

It ended up being that you either had to turn in a homework or study for an exam every week. The homeworks were really hard and theoretical but I went in during office hours and she was always willing to help. The midterms are not as abstract but cover a lot of material. She doesn't curve but the tests average 130 possible points each and she makes them out of 100. So if you get 100/140 it actually turns into 100%. Therefore it is easier to get an A than it seems. Also, she made the final optional which was pretty cool. As a lecturer she was terrible during the beginning of the semester, reading through powerpoints so fast that no one could follow her. She eventually figured out that it was ineffective and wrote notes on the blackboard, which was a lot more helpful. |
