This course was pretty good – It isn’t like a traditional history course where you have to memorize certain events. It feels like ENGL101 because of the amount of arguments and interpretations you have to defend about Asian American events. There is a lot of reading, and Mar posts study questions to guide your reading. I found that skimming the text was sufficient enough. I highly recommend for an easy History CORE.

P.S. The final exam will be a pain if you don't take notes on the readings and in class...

Very enthusiastic teacher. For a history course this one is really interesting. There is a ton of reading, but often the readings were interesting too. The TA didn't make it uncomfortable for the less verbal people to participate in discussion.

This class was surprisingly good. On the first day you get the syllabus and find out there a ton of reading, but after a week or two you find out that no one does the readings. Theres a quiz once a week in lecture, and if you aren't drunk you should be able to pass it.

My favorite part of this class was there was no memorization. The midterm was an in class essay that you got to bring in a 3x5 notecard with an outline for. The final is the same thing but 2 essay instead of one. Also there are 2 papers over the semester, but they aren't so bad because almost all the information needed you get from lecture so you don't need to do independent research.

Discussion is worth 30% of your grade, and I'm pretty sure its all based on your participation. So just go to discussion, say something useful, and you should be fine. I highly recommend this course.

Tons of reading. You'll find out as soon as you get into lecture that you have 100-200 pages of reading a week average. Two weeks you have a novel to start and finish with additional outside sources.

Mar is enthusiastic and knows her material. I hate history but this was one of the less painful history courses I've ever been in. Do the majority of the reading and you're fine... no other way to say it. Dont do the reading and you'll prob scrape out a B or get a C.

Everyone needs a history credit... i'd refer a friend to this one if I had to pick.

Professor Mar's class was interesting, but sometimes boring and unnecessary. There were readings due every Monday and most weeks, the readings were accompanied by an easy in-class quiz. I learned most of the material from the readings. The papers were challenging, but do-able. They were graded fairly. Professor Mar always came to class enthusiastic and was eager to answer questions or just talk to you. The TA, Rebecca, was nice as well.

This class was challenging in a way that it made you think & really analyze the events in Asian American history.

Overall, I'm glad I took this course.
