Average Rating:| Anonymous Course: SOCY498I Grade Expected: A November 7, 2011, 4:05 am | Sociology of Reproduction - DIFFICULT class but very interesting. Mann is a good professor, she cares about her students and she's VERY passionate about her field. This class is not a joke, though. As Mann says, this is a 400 level class and will be treated like one. The most reading I've ever had to do for one class. If you don't do the assigned reading, Mann can tell and she won't hesitate to kick you out of the class. Once she kicked 9 people hour for not doing the reading. Videos, movies, and novels are very very graphic. This class wasn't really for me but if you're interested in abortion, feminism, women's rights, birth methods, midwifery, etc. you'll enjoy it. Definitely an experience. |
| Anonymous Course: SOCY498W Grade Expected: May 28, 2011, 1:25 pm | Out of all the professors I've had in college she is the worst! The first day of class she will talk about how everyone needs to be open, non-judgemental, respectful, etc. yet if you go to talk to her personally she won't give you the time of day. I went to talk to her about a LGBT issue and she made it very clear that she was offended by me using the term "homosexuals". She is uninspiring and the most close minded person I've ever met. |
| Anonymous Course: LGBT448F Grade Expected: December 18, 2010, 8:58 am | Dr. Mann is a hard grader for grammar, and most of the class is turning in papers. You turn in 10 response papers to readings and have about 20 chances to write a paper, so you can have a couple off weeks if you have a busy week. Take the paper to the writing lab on campus and you will definitely get an A on the response papers. Don't assume you're a good writer going into the class because I thought I was and got my papers all marked up. Participation is 100 points so just go to class. You don't have to pay attention, just go. Then the final is a take home essay which is easy. overall, easy up-level elective for majors. |
| mc3267 Course: SOCY105H Grade Expected: A May 20, 2010, 3:48 pm | Dr. Mann is a hard ass. Her class is difficult, but she's an easy grader. This course was incredibly difficult for instructor and student alike. We had to go through a ton of sociological concepts and ideas in a short period of time (shorter considering the blizzard). The course will make you uncomfortable, enlighten you, and bore you depending on what kind of mood you (or Emily's) in. I would recommend it. Just have an open mind, and you'll be fine. |
| Anonymous Course: SOCY100 Grade Expected: A December 3, 2009, 1:04 pm | Professor Mann is a really good teacher. She makes classes very interesting by enhancing her lectures with tv clips, pictures, and other things that have to do with the topics being learned. You have to go to her classes and do all of the readings because she has very frequent reading checks that she collects and grades for participation. She is a very fair grader. It is very easy to get an A in the class because there are five reading essays that are due throughout the semester and you can pick which readings you do the essays on. You can also do extra essays until you get the grades you want on them, and at the end she picks the five highest grades out of all the essays you do. Overall she is a good teacher and it is a good core class. |
