Reviews for Gerald Maa

I mean it's ENGL101 so it's not exactly going to be the most exciting class ever. Nevertheless, as long as you follow his guidelines you'll be fine and might actually learn something along the way. |

He has very high standards, so you will work hard in this class (although I've heard that that is true for all ENGL101H classes if you want an A). In the end it will be worth it though. He irritated me with his little particulars for about half the semester, but then I had a eureka moment when I realized how effective his teaching style really is. I learned more in this class than I ever thought I would and if I had to take it again I would. |
| Anonymous Course: AAST498D Grade Expected: March 10, 2010, 1:34 am | NEVER take this class or this professor for this class. he treats the course like a graduate level course except its NOT. he expects that challenging you will make you satisfied in the end but it really doesn't. He doesn't understand that very little people want to become experts on Asian American material culture. Don't take this class unless you want to become an expert in Asian American material culture because in the end it's just too difficult and not worth the time. |

You may find him boring at first, but you gotta know how to pump fun into it and joke around. Fair grader. KNOW TO INCLUDE A SPECIFIC AUDIENCE AND TAYLOR YOUR PAPER TO THE AUDIENCE. YOU WILL LOSE A LOT POINTS FOR NOT INCLUDING THE MOST SPECIFIC AUDIENCE YOU CAN THINK OF. Have the thesis sentence at the end of the first paragraph. Again, make the audience very specific. Choose a time, place, people, cause, etc. The more specific the better. |
| scfrench Course: LGBT448E Grade Expected: B December 18, 2009, 1:25 am | Maa is a really cool dude, down to earth. I was very comfortable speaking about anything I felt, and during his lectures, everyone pretty much participates. There are really no wrong answers, because it is an opinionated class. There is a lot of reading, but most of it isn't bad and gives you a whole new perspective of life if your not gay/asian. Great experiences, probably my favorite class this semester. The only thing is that his notes get really confusing when your taking them. And you must remember a lot of quotes! |
| Anonymous Course: ENGL101H Grade Expected: A- November 5, 2009, 11:18 am | You will work really hard in this class but it for sure made me a better writer. Mr. Maa is really helpful and will meet with you whenever you want help. Make sure d don't wait until the last minute to do your papers. Really good teacher. I would choose to take him again. |
