Luna is alright. He has a thick accent but that does not mean he's not understandable. Class gets boring after a couple lectures but it's important to go because he gives out answers to exam questions. He takes down the slides after 24hrs so download it asap. My TA didn't speak good English but that wasn't a problem. A lot of work for a 100 level class and it's all memorization.

Easy peezy class. Luna is pompous and irritating. I never went to class. Discussion is the most boring 50 minutes I've ever spent every Friday at 10am and the TA barely spoke English. I did learn some from this course but it was self taught from his slides the night before the multiple choice exams. Very easy course but not very enticing. I enjoy geography but Luna made me skip almost every class. Don't buy the book. The atlas is cool but only because I love maps.

Dr. Luna is the greatest professor I've had at College Park.

Geography 130 was literally life changing and I loved the class. I learned how to think in a world view. The ideas in the class were relevant and fun to discuss.

Dr. Luna relates his life and this class to college students so well. I went to every single class and I did not regret a single day.

I took this class in the freshmen connection program and Dr. Luna was simply awesome. He answered questions, and cared for all the students.

I'm tired of these terrible reviews, this man was an awesome teacher, don't be so disrespectful!

You will miss this class so much once its done..

Dr. Luna is a beast.

I took this class for my SB core credit. and wanted an easy A. It proved out to be just for that. Learned lil from this course and there was not even need of buying the book. Prof Luna posts his presentations (often criticized for unnecessarily long and with incorrect English) online for a day which are more than enough to get an A in this course. There are 3 midterms and no finals which are all multiple choice questions and are very easy. There are points for attending the discussions and Luna tries to give the exam question in his lecture to boost the attendance (which drops exponentially as semester ends). He also gives a study guide (during his lecture) from which he makes the exam.

In my time at the University of Maryland there has been nary a class I have experienced that was as disappointing as Geography with Prof. Ronald Wilfredo Luna. His oft-byzantine presentations presented obvious information in ways which were far too incomprehensible for most of us to understand. He's a carpetbagger at heart, and I often felt swindled by his draconian exams with magniloquent questions.

Truly there exists no more abstruse or pedantic professor such as Wilfredo (if that is his real name.) His style of teaching elects to provoke emotional feelings of ego-death. As an avid afficionado in the art of Geography, I can say with utmost certainty that Wilfred wouldn't know two rocks if they were being sensually rubbed over his rock-hard, chiseled abs.

I'm a senior, and had to take a geography class when I changed my major from ecology to environmental science and policy. I picked this one because I hoped it would be an easy A. It is, so far. I didn't study for the first exam, only went to half the lectures, and got a 90%. Tests are from the lecture slides, which he takes down after a day. Discussion is graded and pointless. I learned nothing and found the group assignments to be unhelpful and tedious. Im typically really good about going to class, but I resented attending this one. Dr. Luna makes huge generalizations, assumes his students to be completely ignorant because we're American and therefore are uneducated about the world and are not aware of the fact that everything is made in China, for instance, or that not everyone in the world has a cellphone. I found him offensive, uninteresting, and a poor lecturer. His biggest pet peeve is people not coming to class, he mentions it in every lecture and instructs students not to give anyone their lecture notes, because if they say they were sick, or there was a death in the family, they are lying. So dont bother emailing him if you miss class, even for a legitimate reason. There are a couple other 100-level geography classes. I recommend taking them.

Easy class. This guy is basically a communist. He thinks that the US is the worst nation in the world and shows biased videos in class the degrade the US and Israel. It's sad. Big time asshole. Take the class for the A, but people should stand up to his ridiculous opinions.

This guy is a pompous ass. He acts like he is God's gift to the world but he can't even fucking spell or use proper grammar in his slides which he takes down after only being up for 12 hours.

Overall the class is incredibly easy but Luna was such a smarmy prick that it kinda ruined the whole class for me.

I will admit that Dr. Luna does generalize a LOT, but as he says himself, it's to convey a point.

The class itself is an easy A. Showing up to every discussion earns you 100 points (an exam grade). His final is NOT cumulative and doubles as his third exam. The papers are relatively easy, and despite a lot of group work, the points are fairly easy to get if you put around 6 hours of work or so into each paper. I'll probably pass with a 94 or a 95.

Overall, if you are taking this class for a core its not too difficult. Tests are easy but the papers and assignments are tedious and the TA I had was terrible at both teaching and grading. Also, if you are interested in developing countries, this class will give you a unorganized synopsis of the subject. Luna also has horrible grammar and he is offensive and incoherent at times. However, Luna does do an excellent job of explaining developing countries from the other perspectives outside the US. He shows how the developing world has suffered which is uncommon among western professors. overall decent course but not something I would fully recommend.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Professor Luna is the absolute worst professor I've had here-he generalizes global problems into 4 bullet points and makes degrading comments that I find personally offensive. He doesn't know what he's talking about, I have no idea how he has his doctorate. Going to his lectures consists of him reading off his poorly made, grammatically incorrect slides. Discussion being mandatory is absolutely ridiculous & such a waste of time-it doesn't enhance anything you learn in class, it's completely unnecessary & annoying group work. Probably one of the dumbest classes offered here-don't take it unless someone else is teaching it.

Nice guy, good-looking TA, interesting material. Posts lectures online and covers all of the topics. Two exams, 2-3 med length papers, and a group project. I would definitely recommend this class.

Easiest class I've taken at UMD. His grammar is horrible and calls students out, but I enjoyed his class. Tests are super easy. Final is just a test and isn't cumulative. TAs are really nice. The grade is based practically on participation and attendance in discussion.

As a junior at the University of Maryland, I am well aware that the quality and style of teaching varies from professor to professor. That being said, I feel obliged to let the university know that Dr. Luna is the poorest instructor I've had during my time at Maryland. Dr. Luna's performance as an instructor is downright unacceptable. Not only were his powerpoint presentations littered with grammatical errors, but he frequently taught erratic material to the students, confusing specific geographical processes that he should have mastered in order to teach at an institution as well received as the University of Maryland. Frankly, Ronald Luna was unable to teach the class effectively, and for him to have earned a doctorate in geography is surprising to me, given the mediocre handling he has on the subject material.

Personally, I liked Dr. Luna. As long as you go to class and listen to his lectures, you will do fine in the class. BUT if you don't, attend lecture, then you might not do as well on the exams. He does delete information out from his powerpoints. Dr. Luna is funny and really nice.

Awesome teacher! He is very down to earth and funny and really cares about his students. He is the kind of professor you can get to know and have a good relationship with. Go to class and focus and you will get good grades. All the bad reviews on here are for people who don't go to class and don't do well.

For a geography class, this one wasn't too bad. Tests are straight forward and he posts lectures on blackboard. As long as you come to class and take a few notes you should get a decent grade. BEWARE!! If you plan on not coming to class, he deletes essential slides from the power point that is in class from the one that is posted on blackboard. He doesn't really refer to the text book often and you could probably get away without it, but buy the atlas, you will use it in discussion.

Dr. Luna doesn't really do a whole lot more than you can just get out of the book by reading it. His lectures consist of him reading off of a power point (which you can download from blackboard without going to lecture) and drawing unhelpful pictures on the board. All of his power points have terrible grammar, and so do his tests. This class relatively easy, however, it is due more to the simplicity of the material and easy points on group work than Dr. Luna's prowess as a teacher.

Dr.Luna is an interesting fellow. It is sometimes difficult to decipher exactly what he is saying as the grammar in his power point lectures is never grammatically correct. As a teacher, he is pretty funny. He often uses examples in our daily lives to kind of correlate what he is teaching to how it affects us. The tests are pretty easy to be honest as long as you study the lectures. Don't waste your time reading the "suggested" readings. You have to also watch about an average of 3 Dial Access movies on your own time per exam since there are questions about them on each one.

Oh and just on a side note he might not be in class one week cause he is in cancun...and he will rub it in haha
