Reviews for Edgar George Lopez-Escobar
Average Rating:| Anonymous Course: MATH140H Grade Expected: C+ April 25, 2011, 12:39 pm | Very nice guy and very approachable for office hours. There is a curve in the honors course where you could basically fail all 4 midterms, but still manage to pass the course due to your grade on the final. Exams are a bit more challenging than the general 140 exams and his lectures went off on tangents ( for example number theory and the history of math). Unless you are truly a math genius and want a smaller section I would say the regular 140 is a better route since the concepts and how to do certain problems are stressed and not abstract lectures on why you apply those concepts. |
| Anonymous Course: MATH274 Grade Expected: A December 22, 2010, 6:57 am | Really nice guy and obviously know his stuff, but he should not be teaching this class. He is SO incredibly boring in this class that it is mind-boggling. His syllabus said that there would be seven tests but he ended up only doing three because I guess he didn't feel there was enough material. I learned absolutely nothing in the class because he just writes random things on the board that do not follow the book whatsoever. He often reads directly from the book sitting down at the table. Although the class is easy to get an A in, I would not take it if you think you are going to learn something about the History of Math. |
| vnsach Course: MATH140H Grade Expected: A- November 1, 2010, 11:18 pm | Great teacher. He really cares about how you do in the class. Should have gotten a B+ but he raised me and a friend's grade. Was not the best teacher but a great person. |
| Anonymous Course: Grade Expected: A+ January 5, 2010, 7:08 am | I got an A in the class only because I took calc in high school and knew my stuff. If you haven't taken a calculus class before I would reccommend switching teachers. All of his explanations are proofs and are usually difficult to follow. However, whether you do not pass one of his tests, if you show up to class and show some sort of effort he won't give you a grade below a C. He is a generally nice and understanding person who is not out to get you. |
| Anonymous Course: MATH310 Grade Expected: B October 7, 2009, 12:42 pm | This professor is a nice, intelligent guy but I'd advise you to avoid his class if possible. The book that he uses for the class has no practice problems and he gives little to no practice problems to prepare you for the exams. When he teaches, he reads directly from the book and then only partially solves the proofs of the theorems he reads to us. I didn't learn anything until after each of our exams because I honestly had no idea how to prepare for them and I had no idea how he wanted us to answer his questions. The good thing is, however, that if you screw up the entire semester but do good on your final, then he'll drop your other exam scores and just use the final exam as your grade for the class. My absolute biggest problem with his class is that I took it under the impression that it would prepare me for Math410, just as the math department says, yet I don't know a single thing about constructing a proof. He seriously just did not put any emphasis on it. I basically got nothing out of his class except for an extensive review of series and sequence from Calc2. |
