Reviews for Martin L. Johnson
Average Rating:| Anonymous Course: PSYC200 Grade Expected: A May 7, 2011, 6:14 pm | This was such a great class. Yeah 8am sucks but he was a nice guy, made the subject interesting and because of him I decided that psych was a waste of time and changed my major to statistics. |

You don't have to attend lecture because he wrote the book so it's really straightforward, but attending lecture can really help if you learn by example. Also, the discussions are optional which is great, and you can just go when you have a question on something. The five quizzes are fairly easy and the exams aren't bad either. He uses examples from the book. |
| Anonymous Course: PSYC200 Grade Expected: A July 14, 2010, 10:09 am | most boring course ever. He is extremely monotone and non-energetic but the class is pretty simple. Going to lecture is really important, and if you do go, reading the book is not necessary. Exams are mostly easy except for a few tricky questions he pulls out of nowhere. Overall, very little effort is needed to get an A in this course, especially if you have had a stat class in the past. |
| Anonymous Course: PSYC200 Grade Expected: June 9, 2010, 8:31 pm | THE best professor I've had so far! The class is very straight forward. attend lecture and review the book and you will get a good grade!! Unlike other professors, he ACTUALLY cares about the students and is willing to help you if you approach him whether in person or email. He's helped me a great deal, and I am forever grateful. |
| Anonymous Course: PSYC200 Grade Expected: A+ May 15, 2010, 12:15 pm | got a 100 in this class and rarely went to lecture. you can learn everything from the book, and if youve taken stats before, please do not go to the lecture...you will waste your time. he tells you exactly what you need to know for the quizzes/exams. very easy class |
| Anonymous Course: PSYC200 Grade Expected: A May 4, 2010, 11:58 am | Johnson is a good teacher. He explains things well and is available if you have questions. Discussion isn't mandatory, you only go if you have questions. As for tests and quizzes - they were straightforward and there is always an extra credit question. And there were a few homework assignments which were 2 pts each and were graded partially for completeness and partly for correctness. The only downfall of this class was that having it as an 8am made it really hard to pay attention. If you have taken AP Stat this class will be a BREEZE! |
| Anonymous Course: PSYC200 Grade Expected: A April 30, 2010, 7:39 am | He doesn't explain concepts very well, but after some effort on your part, you'll eventually understand. He tells you more than you need to know. Exams are fair. The first 2-3 have a couple multiple choice in the beginning; try not to miss them...or you'll lose too many points. |
| Anonymous Course: PSYC200 Grade Expected: A December 18, 2009, 4:32 pm | He is a straightforward teacher and very approachable if you have questions. He offers up to 4 points on your final grade in SONA extra credit which is a wonderful gift. The book is helpful if you need help but like I said Johnson (and the TAs) are there to help you. It is a standard math class though so don't come in expecting anything less then that. He does give you the equations for quizzes and tests so you don't need to bother memorizing them. As long as you know when to use them this is an easy class and a good teacher. |
| Anonymous Course: PSYC200 Grade Expected: October 11, 2009, 11:35 am | I had never taken any Stats class before, and he did a very good job of teaching the material. You should go to every class, but if you miss anything, the book is pretty helpful. You don't have to go to discussion, which is nice. He makes it pretty straightforward what you need to know for the exams. If you go to every class, make sure you understand the material, and do the extra credit through SONA, this class should be an easy A. |
| Anonymous Course: PSYC200 Grade Expected: B May 30, 2009, 2:29 pm | I got stuck in 8am lecture. Yes, the material is boring but I think he taught it well. He wasn't engaging but how could he? It is a statistics class. Going to the discussion section is optional. Just do all the homework, study for the quizzes and tests, and you can get an A. I did not study for the midterm (I know, stupid) and got a very low grade on it but did well enough on the other assignments that I passed with a B. He's a really nice, chilled guy to talk to. Take him for this class. |
| terpzilla Course: PSYC200 Grade Expected: A+ May 21, 2009, 7:48 am | He tells everyone it's not a math class, but it is. It's really not that bad, though. His lectures always end at least 15 minutes early. Each quiz and exam has a thorough review guide and he gets back the stuff to students in a timely manner. I never had to ask him any questions, but he seems pretty approachable. |
| kanned88 Course: PSYC200 Grade Expected: B May 5, 2009, 7:56 pm | This class is extremely boring. Do your best not to get stuck in the 8 am. |
| rbterp Course: PSYC200 Grade Expected: A March 7, 2009, 8:05 pm | Dr. Johnson's course is straightforward and not challenging. I would recommend going to class, but if you ever miss a lecture, the book correlates very closely with what he says during lecture. I actually think that he should make the course more challenging since stat is such an important part of psych, but as it is now you'll learn the basics without working too hard. |
| kbe12478 Course: PSYC200 Grade Expected: December 21, 2007, 8:51 pm | Not the most exciting of professors, but he was cool in a lot of ways. The 1 hour and 15 minute lecture was ALWAYS finished in about 50 minutes. I learned a lot in this class, but his lectures were almost a word-for-word regurgitation of the textbook he wrote. Furthermore, the textbook contains profuse examples (all of which he also does in class), so you could get by with one or the other. Overall, a good class if you do put in the effort to master the material one way or another. |
