Let me start off by saying that as a person Doug is awesome. He has a really interesting life that he shares pieces of in class and is a really fun person. I just think that the standard that we were held to in this class was too high. It was much too much work for a core class so if that's what your taking it for then don't. Also, if you think its just gonna be a fun time, you may also be mistaken. The class was pretty much divided into two camps- people who thought they learned a lot from the class and people who thought pop culture studies was not a real subject. I can tell you that the second side was larger, but I did enjoy some things that we talked about.

This class is confusing as shit. I don't know what the hell went on for this entire semester and Doug had a really academic way of wording everything and made it so difficult. But, it was interesting and Doug is a cool guy so I guess it made up for it.

3 midterms, last one cumulative, mostly short answers for each one; the final is a paper. Speak in class--participation is a big part of the grade. Also, take advantage of the extra credit. It really helps.

I loved having class with Doug! First of all, this class isn't a super easy A. He actually expects you to do the work assigned and to participate, but he doesn't assign too much. He's kind of intellectually intimidating at first because he's really smart and uses course terms from the first day, but you'll learn what everything means and get used to it as time goes on. Other than that, he's really fun to listen to. He doesn't really keep anything private, so you'll learn a lot of personal things about him, but they're all funny. And he's just a funny guy in general. Also, don't be afraid to go to his office hours. He can be very helpful in answering questions you have and is just a fun guy to talk to. The workload in this class wasn't bad at all. An 20-ish page article was assigned every class, there were three "midterms," and a final project that was a 5-7 page paper. I would definitely recommend him so take his classes!!!
