Reviews for Jarl Olaf Hulbert
Average Rating:| Anonymous Course: ECON456 Grade Expected: A- December 21, 2011, 12:44 am | This is for the economics professor Jason Hulbert. I really enjoyed this class. He gives a lot of real world examples that makes it easy to understand. Try and go to class because he does not post notes. It can get a little slow at times but just power through, it will help you in the long run. He does post a helpful study guide before each exam, but I wouldn't recommend relying on that for notes. The tests were pretty much straightforward if you went to class and studied well. If you have questions, he is open to answering them during office hours. Very nice guy who made understanding this subject very easy. I would recommend taking any class with him. |
| Anonymous Course: MUSC130 Grade Expected: A December 9, 2011, 4:28 pm | Professor Hulbert is a great professor! He is a younger guy, which was a nice change of pace from all of the older professors I seem to get. You can tell that he is really passionate about the subject and he always goes out of his way to make the class interesting. I almost felt bad for him because sometimes the class wasn't very responsive. His tests were very easy and if you pay attention in class at all you will know most of the answers on the tests. You will have to go to three concerts throughout the semester and write reviews on them, but the class is very little work, including a simple 3-5 page term paper towards the end. All of the grading is done by the TA so there is some subjectivity there when it comes to grading on the papers and reviews, but generally it is a great course by a great professor. |
| Anonymous Course: MUSC130H Grade Expected: A+ February 1, 2011, 5:59 pm | Professor Hulbert is extremely energetic. Sometimes I felt bad because our class was so dead since it was an AM lecture, but that never dampened his spirits. He was always so happy and excited to teach. His assignments were extremely doable; like someone said before, they don't take much time. Our TA Robert Lintott was also really great. His discussions were very well organized and he too was upbeat and knowledgeable. He's 100% down-to-earth and does a great job of trying to make the material understandable for non-music people. |
| Anonymous Course: MUSC130 Grade Expected: A December 16, 2010, 9:53 pm | Professor Hulbert is definitely one of the best teachers I've had here at UMD. He is extremely nice, knowledgeable, engaging, funny, and dedicated to his job. He keeps the class entertaining and enjoyable and is never in a bad mood. He knows the subject material very well and his workload is very manageable. The tests are not difficult and weekly assignments don't take too much time. Learning the material in this class was actually enjoyable as opposed to a chore and I credit this to Prof. Hulbert. If you need an HA, don't hesitate to take this class. I have ZERO complaints coming out of this course. |
| Anonymous Course: Grade Expected: A December 10, 2010, 11:50 pm | Professor Hulbert is hands down one of the best professors I've ever had at umd! He is so considerate and nice and makes the material interesting (even though the class is mostly on musical terms and history of famous composers and performers). He's so engaging and outgoing and extremely likable. He truly tries to engage student participation. My class wasn't too big on that but he never gave up and always tried to wake us up in the morning. I actually thought he was so funny - he jokes in class all the time - and he truly cares about his students and wants them to have fun. He never fails to mention what's gonna be on the exam as he's teaching it or writing it on the board and his exams are so straightforward. The average on our first exam was 100% there's always bonus questions (know the composer and the concept for the tracks on the CD). He's also very approachable and considerate if you have a question or an issue - he gives out extra credit! His personality was motivation enough to show up to class. |
