She is a good person and a great teacher that tries to get the class involved and understanding the material. The class works in chronological order so that readings done in the beginning of the semester are from the 1600s, and are very boring/difficult to understand. However, as the class progresses, it becomes more interesting.

Grading consists of a journal entry for every reading, which is 4 sentences long, and occurs after every class pretty much. Journals are only checked right before the midterm. There is a midterm and a final, both of which she gives reviews and review sheets for. There is also a 5-7 page research paper which she gives about 2 months to complete.

Overall the class is not that difficult, but it does require some prior literary knowledge as well as good writing skills in order to achieve an A.

Higby is a great professor. She is down to earth and doesn't grade harshly. Class consisted of a bunch of readings, 2 papers, 2 exams (including the final), and journal entries. I would recommend taking this class to anyone because the professor is nice, she knows her stuff, and is very attentive to her students needs.

She's a really good teacher. Granted the information isn't that interesting, she does her best. She also likes getting to know your students. She helps a lot if you ask her for help with the essays. The class is a mid term, a final, and two essays. The tests are easy, she pretty much tells you what's going to be on it.

I didn't find this class very helpful in my writing skills. I felt that class time was used as a waste on most days. But I guess all ENGL101 classes are like this.

Yes, she was a chill/lenient teacher. But I didn't like that she didn't collect a lot of homework assignments that I put my time and ink/paper into.
I also didn't like how she would frown and say that you're wrong so bluntly, when your answer wasn't what she was thinking.

I've never taken the time to write a review on this site but everyone deserves to know how awesome Ms. Higby was. Great teacher, completely boosted my confidence in my writing skills, and is hands down the most chill teacher I've had til this day in college park. Take her class!

Ms. Higby is awesome! She's really helpful, wants you to succeed, and even claims that she is the most lenient English teacher. She has a great personality and really tries to connect with her students! I would definitely recommend taking her.
