Hardy doesn't care if you come to class or not. Grades are based on 5 exams, and he drops the lowest one (not the final though). He tells you what you need to know for the most part, but he does throw in some theory questions that come only from reading the book. Although the class is pretty easy, make sure you keep up with the material and don't leave it until the night before because I tried, and it didn't work; hence the reason I got a B.

Professor Hardy is by far the best professor that I have had at the Smith Business School thus far. He makes sure to explain everything in good detail, and his exams test exactly what he teaches. As any professor should, he makes sure to use the chalkboard as often as he can. He is more than willing to answer any questions that you may have, and his explanations and examples are very clear and easy-to-understand.

I recommend him highly for any accounting course at UMD.

Great Professor. He definitely knows his stuff. I heard not so good reviews of him for 300 level classes but when it comes to Advanced Accounting BMGT424, he is really great. I actually prefer the simple grading system where all your grades come from tests. This removes unnecessary homeworks that I think are quite ineffective.

Highly recommended.

The exams were difficult. He gets all the questions from a test bank and doesn't proofread them. On two of his exams, I remember there were no right answer for like 3 questions or so. He didn't say which numbers until he handed back grades so tests became more of a guessing game than test taking. Also there is a lot of emphasis on entries in this course and a multiple choice exam for this eliminates any chance for partial credit. not that there were many entry questions anyway for MC. a lot of the questions were theory based.. random.

This class was all about 5 exams in which 3 of the first 4 were counted and the fifth exam was counted, 25% each. The Exams consisted of a little more theory than problem type questions overall. The easiest exam was Chapters 6,7,18 so take advantage of that exam specifically.(especially if you are double majoring in finance) Most people miss the theory multiple choice questions, so i tackled out the A by rereading the book once or twice. Hardy has good insight about the field of accounting, but class was a bit boring.

Hardy's a nice guy; but I wouldn't call him much of an effective professor. He's really knowledgeable about his subject; but isn't too good at conveying information. Listen to what he says in class; and like any other class in the business school, coming to this can be extremely hard, because the material is pretty dry. But do go to class; it does help. He usually tests us only on what he has covered. From what I've heard, he's a much easier professor than Zhou.

He drops one exam, but the exams are the ONLY grades. There is no curve and the tests are very specific/picky and there is always one question that you're not sure where it came from, which is enough to drop you almost a letter grade since there are only 30 MC questions on each exam including final (no partial credit). He posts the answers to the practice problems, which help get you to about a B level, you have to be a good guesser to get an A I guess.
