Average Rating:| Anonymous Course: GVPT170 Grade Expected: May 16, 2011, 8:17 am | Engel is a great prof in that if you study for the tests, you'll do well. She gives you a list of terms for each exam, 7 of which will be picked for the test and you choose to write about 5. Essays are easy and don't require outside research. Overall, great class for SB CORE and great way to learn about the govt. |
| Anonymous Course: GVPT170 Grade Expected: B June 9, 2009, 3:45 am | Class consists of 20% of grade to paper 1, 25% of your midterm, 20% paper 2, 30% for the final, and about 5% towards discussions. Make sure to go to all discussions. If you do the requried readings you don't need to go to lecture, if not then just go to lecture. This entire class is based of the book so definetly get it. I found some of her lectures to be really interesting while some were quite boring as well. I would recommend writing drafts of your papers ahead of time and see your TA, because grading can be random or just what the TA is looking for. Susan Lee is fine if you take the time to see her outside of class during office hours. Definetly put a lot of effort into the papers, I got a D of the first paper and struggled to get a B at the end. Overall I took this class to fufill a core class and I think it was pretty worthwhile. |
| Anonymous Course: GVPT170 Grade Expected: B May 17, 2009, 6:21 pm | Engel is not that bad, but my discussion TA, Susan Lee, was miserable. She did not let anybody say anything original or creative in discussions. If you didn't say what she wanted to hear, it was plain wrong. After every discussion, we all walked out saying how we felt dumber. She was the most narrow minded and stifling TA I've ever had. And, a very inconsistent grader. |
| Anonymous Course: GVPT170 Grade Expected: A May 5, 2009, 6:40 pm | didn't think it would be that difficult initially, got a C on the first paper and a low grade on the first quiz and quickly realized this class was forreal. banged out an A on the midterm and A on the next paper and subsequently high quiz grades on all the next quizzes. usually drops lowest one or two quiz grades out of 5. final is cumulative, dont' have to go to lecture she puts slides on line. but will change it up in class and no update it on line, so its your perogative. go to disc. if you like getting good grades on quizzes |
| Anonymous Course: GVPT170 Grade Expected: B+ May 3, 2009, 2:33 pm | Her expectations for this class are simply too high. Grades are based on two papers, 1 midterm, and the final basically. Assigns grades in an inconsistent way, different for papers and different for the tests. Has ridiculous expectations, for example she penalized students for writing the paper on the topic assigned online, saying she specified what to write in class and that the assignment sheet was wrong. A relatively easy class, but ridiculously frustrating professor. |
