Hands down one of the worst professors I have had in the sciences. She is arrogant, condescending and cares nothing for her students. I do not know why the reviewer above rated her so highly with three start as she doesn't even deserve one. When someone asks her a question during lecture she throw it back to the class and if no one answers she says something along the lines of I'll let you figure it out and never answers it. Her exams are almost entirley multiple choice but many problems usually have ambiguous answers. The class averages for our class were in the mid 60's. She has the highest fail rate (I mean D's) out of any other UMD biochem professors. Avoid her at all costs if you can. If you can't, you have been warned.

Okay, I cannot disagree with what everyone has already said about this professor but I think the other professor's section was just as hard. To summarize: TA useless, tests hard and detailed, questions misleading(usually 1-3 per test), lecture boring, and she is cold.

The only way to get an A in this class is to memorize every detail in the book because that is what she will test you on. I tried learning big picture concepts and going over notes but that got me an 80. Memorizing each chapter for the smallest detail got me a 97.

And do I dare say it: You don't have to go lecture(although i did), just memorize the book chapters.

This was the worst science course I have ever taken. When you first meet her she seems nice and intelligent. Once the exams start though you see how much she does not care about her students. Sometimes people would ask questions and her response would just be "look in your book". She is very condescending and rude but expects complete respect from all of her students. Her tests are multiple choice but they are filled with many errors and ambiguous answers/interpretations. Forget about learning anything in this class and be ready to memorize the whole book down to the WORD. Even for students who love to memorize this course will be hard unless you are naturally good at multiple choice questions. There are only 30 questions per test so if you want an A good luck with only missing about 3 questions on each exam.

The TA was useless. He did not help the students at all. There were two review sessions that he was supposed to hold during lecture for us. One he sent us home because he said he was not prepared. The other he had the whole weekend to prepare and he did not even bring his book to the review. He acts like he knows everything but when you ask him questions he can not answer ANYTHING you ask. He repeatedly would tell us "don't worry about this exam it will be SO easy" and then the average would come back as a 60%. For someone so cocky about how smart he was he knew nothing and was no help.

Be prepared to battle it out with other students in the course who have previous exams handed down by friends. If you take this course with Dr. E I suggest you start asking around for her old exams.

She's just bad. She doesn't care how students do in the class, she really doesn't care whether students learn or not. When everyone bombed the third exam, she said that it's not her problem. Her exams suck, they're all multiple choice, and while that might sound easy, she really does pick out the smallest details. I feel like there are so many other important concepts to test on, but she just picks out the small things to test on. I feel like this class could've been interesting, but she really didn't make it exciting. She's also condescending, and gets unnecessarily mad when people walk in late/yawn/whatever, and just overall not a good teacher.

Hands down the worst professor i've had in any chem/bio class. Lectures are incredibly boring - she just goes through slides that are just all the figures from the book. She can be pretty condescending sometimes, and her exams are the worst measure of learning ive ever had. All confusing multiple choice about small details, nothing about the big picture really, and sometimes the answer shes looking for is just flatout wrong and she wont budge about it.

I heard last year she only got through about 2/3 of the syllabus but this year shes covering material faster than the syllabus indicates - so it may have not been so bad last year... but in any case this class is just pure memorization of often stupid details and has virtually no intelectual value, and its definitely not easy either.

This is exactly the type of professor you want if you love memorizing lecture slides and what the professor says verbatim. However, if you like to learn using critical thinking and dare to challenge the almighty professor's wisdom in certain areas, then you are screwed in this class. Exams are multiple choice but written terribly ambiguous and you must use the professor's thuoght process or be damned. Regrades are only for those that she knows and will therefore even consider listening to.

I took this course as an elective (ie I was taking it solely for the topic) and am horribly dissapointed with what I got. So, unless you are another pre-med memorization robot, don't take this course and this horrible teacher.
