| Siema101 Course: CCJS340 Grade Expected: A May 18, 2011, 6:10 am | Excellent professor, I found lectures pretty interesting and on topic. You need to go to class to do well and easy extra credit quizzes. The tests are easy especially if you go to class. |
| nsalman Course: CCJS300 Grade Expected: A May 15, 2011, 11:25 am | Dr. Brooks is INCREDIBLE. I had the pleasure of taking two classes with her (CCJS340 and CCJS300) in one semester and I LOVED it. Her exams are very straightforward--they are based right off the notes and the few readings (if you wait until right before an exam to read the textbook, you'll be done within a few hours). For CCJS300, there really isn't an excuse to not get an A. The computer assignments boost your grade significantly AND you can take them to her before she grades them to make sure it's correct. For CCJS340, Dr. Brooks makes the material very easy to understand and gives the best notes! Also, there are 5 extra credit points you can get off the quizzes and another extra 5 points you can get from a ride-along. Overall, she is OUTSTANDING. I only wish she taught more CCJS classes! |
| Anonymous Course: CCJS340 Grade Expected: B+ December 16, 2010, 10:36 pm | Professor Brooks is semi-interesting. Some days I can really pay attention, but others I fall asleep. The guest speakers are really interesting and I like that she offers a ride-along as extra credit. However, I think there should be some kind of assignment besides the exams and attendance to contribute to the final grade. I got an A on the first exam and a C+ on the second one, so even though I did the extra credit and barely missed any classes, I might get a B which is frustrating. I also had her for CCJ300, which was a lot better because there are four computer assignments which really boost your grade. |
| Anonymous Course: CCJS340 Grade Expected: A December 10, 2010, 11:03 am | Very easy class, but you do HAVE to go to the lectures - there are open note quizzes at the end of every lecture, but they're also very easy and help to pad your grade. Notes are done in an outline format and tests are very easy. She outlines exactly what you need to know from the textbook readings, so don't bother reading the whole sections unless they really interest you. There are five extra credit points awarded if you are in class the entire semester and take the extra quizzes (she gives thirty and only counts twenty five towards your grade). There are also five extra credit points given for going on a ride-along. We had six guest speakers this semester and they were all varied and interesting! SWAT, death investigations, K-9, Undercover, Guns and Hostage Negotiation. Dr. Brooks is also very approachable and willing to help out any students. She tells a lot of stories that really help the material stick in your head. She takes what sounds like a boring class and makes it very entertaining! |
| smj988 Course: CCJS340 Grade Expected: A+ January 21, 2010, 7:34 am | Dr. Brooks is thee most amazing professor ever! She give the best notes, they are easy to take and easy to study. Tests are pretty easy, as long as you go to class. The readings are not hard either, they have to do with what your learning in class and she tells you what part of the book you will be tested on. AND! she gives a bunch of extra credit! This helps ALOT! if you have a B in the class it can bring you up to an A! She has open book extra credit quizes that are worth 1 point each, and there are 10 quizes in all. And a 2 page ride along paper which is worth 5 points. She has a bunch of quest speakers that come in who are supposed to be pretty good also. I took the class in the winter so we didnt have them. Crim majors will greatly enjoy this class. Its easy and you actuallyy learn! Btw, I got a 97% in the class! |
| wmccarth Course: CCJS300 Grade Expected: C December 22, 2009, 9:05 pm | Professor Brooks was GREAT!! She gives like 10 extra credit quizzes which can be really helpful...They helped me get a B instead of a C...I missed the first 3 and after I realized we had them, I never missed another one because I never knew when they were coming, but knew I needed the extra grade boost! She keeps the class interesting and fun, knows how to keep us engaged. Her notes are very thorough and organized which helped me A LOT! I'd take her class again if I had the opportunity |
| FatJesus Course: CCJS300 Grade Expected: A August 19, 2009, 10:55 am | There is one thing she does that MAY at first annoy you, but TRUST ME on this, it will help A LOT. There are open-note quizzes during class (once a week, I think) that are short that REALLY help keep the knowledge fresh in your head, give you an easy padding on your grade, and force you to keep taking notes. The way she structures her notes is also commendable because it makes it SO much easier to study later. She numbers and sub-headers everything. And each section is divided VERY clearly. Additionally, she gives EXTREMELY helpful review sheets that give exact page ranges of reading that will be assessed on the exam from the book. This makes studying 200 times easier. This way, you learn a lot and never feel pressured to over-study in case the teacher sneaks something onto the exam. She is very meticulous and specific about what you will be assessed on. Overall, she is very upbeat, has a great personality, covers the material very clearly and effectively, and makes it easy to pay attention and take good notes. |
