Be careful with this class. While you might think you can put in an 80% effort and still get an A due to the other majors in this class, he's easy to peg you for the type of student he thinks you are. You should put your full effort into this class to be guaranteed an A.

Mr. Bolton personally is a very nice guy, and when flu season hit, he was extremely understanding.

If you got Bolton for 394, you should be in good shape

Bolton is a very good professor. At first you will think he'll be a Ben Stein type lecturer because of his voice and initial presentation, but once he gets going he's very enjoyable to listen to.

He is very knowlegable, very friendly and fairly witty. He will know everyones name by the third week and really does care about everyone and wants them to do well, which is why I also think he gives more A's than his distribution implies.

The class itself is pretty extensive. At first there are a few easy assignments that you assume will be instant check pluses, like a resume and cover letter, but he really does grade them seriously (I got a B+), which took me off guard.

The whole semester you will be working on a very big proposal that when it's all said and done is worth half your grade. Fortunately, he requires certain things to be turned in during the semester so you won't be able to procrastinate as much as you want.

Overall, you will learn a lot of practical information that should give you a leg up in the job search. Bolton is probably the best choice for this class.

Bolton's a great professor! He spends a lot of time on grammar and restructuring sentences, and he tries to relate his assignments and projects to the real world. His assignments consist of a cover letter + resume, memo, promo group project, bad news message, oral proposal presentation, the actual proposal, a grammar quiz, and a sentence restructuring quiz. His quizzes come straight out of his course packet, too. In general, he's pretty laid back and easy to talk to. At first, I wasn't too sure about this class because the distribution shows that he only gives 30% As, but I feel like he gives more As than that. I'd recommend this prof!
