Reviews for Mark Douglas Arnold
Average Rating:| PossePrincess Course: ENGL390 Grade Expected: February 23, 2011, 12:01 pm | Honestly, this guy kind of creeped me out, and I could never really figure out why. He was very unclear about assignments, how he wanted them done, when they were due, etc. We the class pretty much taught ourselves different chapters, and had to write quiz questions, which we then answered in class. I expect I'll get a good grade, but I regret signing up for this particular advanced English course. |

| Anonymous Course: ENGL390 Grade Expected: A April 29, 2010, 9:11 am | Dr. Arnold never really gave the impression of being terribly well organized. Though he often prepared things for class (short presentations, little lectures, whatever), he still seemed scattered and would sometimes forget where the pertinent information was in whatever article he'd pulled from the web or he would have other, similar problems. He also adjusted the syllabus many times to account for the week of snow. He went through several plans to make up the class time we'd missed during that week, but in the end just asked the class what we thought was best. Between these and other experiences, I was left with the impression of a professor who was kind of wishywashy and a bit of a pushover, but his grading was fair. He also didn't really teach much. Mostly we read the book and then made presentations to teach each chapter to the class. It was fine, but if you did the reading, then the material was pretty stale by lecture time (it's not like the material was riveting to begin with anyway). Other than providing some guidance in one-on-one conferences and by his revisions of papers, I'm just not really sure what he did. His syllabus ended up being pretty ineffective because it was in constant flux. He didn't provide assignment sheets many of the papers towards the end ("There aren't assignment sheets in the real world." - Great, but in the real world you generally do get some kind of description of your task and generally you've done your task a bunch of times already. Fork over an assignment sheet already.). |

Its pretty ridiculous and he is not that great at explaining how he wants the assignments done. I know other people who took junior english and had much easier and helpful professors. |
