This course will consider how social identities are constructed, both within and among different cultures. Students critically examine stereotypes and recognize the diverse ways identities are formed and represented. Students will learn how to contextualize visual representations to help analyze and explore identity as something that is imposed, negotiated, or self-determined. Examples of categories of identity to be studied may include family, race, gender and transnational identities. | |
